Ramadan is here again but with a twist

Happy Ramadán

All praise to God/ Gracia A Dios/ Alhamdulillah we have been allowed to see a new Ramadan.

It seems as though I blog the most during this month. However, I made my intentions this year to blog more starting in January, but you see how that turned out right?!?

Since we are still sheltered in place. All the masaajid (Plural for masjid/ mosques / Mezquitas) are closed. Which means as a Ummah (community / comunidad) we will not be able to break our fast nor pray together. I know it’s not a big deal for some, but then again it is. That means no contact, no hugs, no midnight prayers in congregation.

During this time of month, not only do we use the time to reconnect ourselves with our Creator (Allah). We reconnect ourselves with the Ummah. It’s part of the healing process and realignment of our spiritual selves. So needless to say, we all will become creative on how we reconnect with the community

One way I plan on reconnecting with the Ummah. Is to log into as many local live webinars as possible and listen to as many beneficial lectures about our holy month of fasting.

Alhamdulillah I was invited to a Latina Quran Book Club which I am super excited about. One of my personal goals this year is to read a page of Quran a day.

I finished reading the Quran last year ALHAMDULILLAH so this year I would like to stay consistent with my reading and finish before the end of the year.

So, we have to read 15 pages a day. 😳😳🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ but hey I’m up for the challenge. Today is my day 1 for my reading and I will share some Quranic gems and things that resonated with me from this weeks reading.

This is the book we are reading from. I have had this version of the Quran on my shelf for years. Alhamdulillah.

So my plan for this Ramadán is to share not only my experience of fasting. Especially during this Corona Virus Pandemic, but I also wanted to share my recipes for iftar. I decided on the weekends I will cook ALL Puerto Rican dishes and invite family and friends to come pick up food and leave.

Today for me is Day 1 of fasting. My suhoor was simple waffles, a date, eggs, turkey bacon and my water bottle

Suhoor Ramadán Day 1

Tonight’s iftar (dinner) will be arroz con pollo, salad y Maduros. I will share that recipe and picture tonight Insha Allah.

Ramadan has 3 stages. The first 10 days are the days of mercy and blessings. The 2nd stage is forgiveness and the 3rd is emancipation from the hell fire.

So my dua for all who reads this. May Allah allow you Mercy in this life and in the next. Give you ease today and if you are fasting May he accept your fast and duas. Ameen

Gracia A todos for reading my blog and allowing me to share my thoughts and prayers with you. If you have questions about Islam or my experience or maybe Islamic terminology leave them in the comments.

Quran Challenge Day 4

Surah La Vaca (2:152) •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Short, sweet and to the point. Surah Asr

One of the shortest surahs in the Quran but one of the prolific. In tafsir Ibn Kathir it is said that the sahabah/ companions would not leave each other until they recited Surah Asr and gave Salaams (the greetings) always reminding each other to enjoin the good and forbid the evil and to have patience Alhamdulillah.

Surah Al Asr

=====================

1.I swear by the time,

2.Most surely man is in loss,

3.Except those who believe and do good, and enjoin on each other truth, and enjoin on each other patience.

=====================

1. ¡Por la tarde!

20.Or who is it that will be a host for you to assist you besides the Beneficent Allah? The unbelievers are only in deception.

After a long day of fasting it was nice to break fast with family and home made #arepas #tacos y #guacamole. And even though we are #boriquen we definitely love eating food from other Latin cultures.

We had a good chuckle when I told her I am constantly telling people, No I am not Mexican, Yes I am Boriqua, No tacos are not part of my culture. BUT I am from California EVERYONE eats tacos. Lol

My grandmother started off the taco craze! Then it was passed on to my mother. Or maybe vice versa. All I know is that Growing  up we ate tacos, arroz con gandules y Maduros. That was dinner for us. It was a staple!

My sister in law made the arepas and I finished making the tacos. So basically  arepa is a flat bread made from cornmeal. Water, salt , butter is added and then mushed together into a dough. My sister in law formed them into circles and grilled them until brown and then fried them. Usually people fry them. Then you cut them open and stuff them with whatever toppings you have. We had chicken, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce. They were so good! Alhamdulillah.

As we continued to cook and eat. I kept having the same thought. This is what Islam is about. Appreciating other people’s culture and food. And not losing who you are as a person. In Islam I can be Muslim and retain my culture and food. This is who I am and I am proud of it!

Now that I am talking of food I cannot help to think about my friends chicken and Molé. Que Rico!

Thank you for allowing me to share another day of fasting with you. I hope you enjoyed!

Ramadan Reflection days 18&19- The Last 10 days

18.And certainly those before them rejected (the truth), then how was My disapproval.

19.Have they not seen the birds above them expanding (their wings) and contracting (them)? What is it that withholds them save the Beneficent Allah? Surely He sees everything.

Bismillah

Wow two more days gone. We have entered the last 10 days of Ramadan. During these last 10 days we ask Allah azzawajal (The Most Exalted) protection from th hellfire.

By this time of the month. We are exhausted mentally and physically, BUT spiritually we are awake. We spent 30 days praying everyday. We spent 30 days reading Quran and making extra prayers. Some days we stayed up All night as a family praying and spending time with each other. Seeking the love and mercy of Allah.

I am really impressed and happy about my children and their dedication to Ramadan. Not breaking their fast nor sneaking to eat food. Kids will be kids and right now this is training for them.

I pray we are able to see another year of Ramadan and Insha Allah as a family we can do even better.

Thank you for sharing another day of Ramadan with me!

¡Disfruta!

Ramadan day 15-The full moon marks the half way point

Surah Mulk 67:15

He it is Who made the earth smooth for you, therefore go about in the spacious sides thereof, and eat of His sustenance, and to Him is the return after death.

Monday 6/20 was the 15th day of Ramadan. As I was driving to the masjid (Mosque, Mezquita) for prayer. I happened to look up and see the moon. It was so full and so beautiful and bright. It was almost as if I could reach out and touch it. It was just amazing, Subhan Allah. When you are in a spiritual state of mind you really take time to stop and smell the roses and really look at the beauty in your surrounding environment. It is truly amazing.

It was funny thought, one day I was looking at my calendar prior to seeing the full moon and I thought wow time is flying by we have out 2weeks to go. Then I saw the moon and it all clicked. WE ARE HALF WAY DONE!

At that moment I had to check myself right then and there. What have I been spending my tie one? have I been doing enough for the sake of Allah? and for myself spiritually?

By the half way point, one should be well adjusted to their fasting lifestyle. Usually, around this time in the morning I am not really hungry. A couple of dates, fruits and water I am good for the day. Around this time as Muslims, this is when we dig in and do more!. We do more praying, we give more sadaqah, we do more good deeds, we make extra duas.  Around this time we realize our special friend is leaving, because at this time we have made this connection with Allah (God, Dios) because of our lifestyle change and in our hearts we are happier, we are at peace, we have more energy and we feel more fulfilled. It is such a wonderful feeling and knowing Ramadan is ending we become very sad and push ourselves to do more.

Have an awesome day and Thank You for allowing me to share my fasting day with you.

Ramadan day 13 & 14 another weekend has gone by

Surah Mulk 67:13-14

13.And conceal your word or manifest it; surely He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts.

14.Does He not know, Who created? And He is the Knower of the subtleties, the Aware.

Another weekend has gone by and I am falling behind on my post. Yikes! My intentions this year is to actually post ALL 30 days. Last year, I did not complete all my post and pretty much gave  up.. The posting not the fasting! lol. But you see this is the beauty of Ramadan. This is the challenge that we are given. The challenge is to challenge ourselves. To remove ourselves from our comfort zone to see if we can do something different that is beneficial to our life, to our spiritual selves. Actually, the way we live our lives during Ramadan is the way we should live our lives 24/7 365 days. The way we are during Ramadan is who we should be ALL the time.

It is a struggle is not to live a new life. The struggle is to leave your old life. When I sit and think about Ramadan and my morning routine. I am really just amazed.  During Ramadan, I eat breakfast EVERYDAY and a high protein breakfast at that. Before, Ramadan I barely ate breakfast. It’s was pretty much coffee and a croissant. I drank less water, I ate less fruit. During Ramadan I drink MORE water and I eat MORE fruit. And because of those actions I feel more energetic during the day and at night. I have a power nap during the day on my lunch break. This year I even signed up for a intensive arabic course. Which I thought would be rough, but in actuality I am so happy that I am taking the course and mentally I have not been exhausted. Actually, it has given me that extra boost of energy needed to get finish out the day because my mind is not on is it time to eat yet.

So this year I am determined to post everyday! I may be a bit slow but know my post is coming! 🙂

Have an awesome day and thank you for allowing me to share my fasting experience with you.
