Ramadan day 15-The full moon marks the half way point

Surah Mulk 67:15

He it is Who made the earth smooth for you, therefore go about in the spacious sides thereof, and eat of His sustenance, and to Him is the return after death.

Monday 6/20 was the 15th day of Ramadan. As I was driving to the masjid (Mosque, Mezquita) for prayer. I happened to look up and see the moon. It was so full and so beautiful and bright. It was almost as if I could reach out and touch it. It was just amazing, Subhan Allah. When you are in a spiritual state of mind you really take time to stop and smell the roses and really look at the beauty in your surrounding environment. It is truly amazing.

It was funny thought, one day I was looking at my calendar prior to seeing the full moon and I thought wow time is flying by we have out 2weeks to go. Then I saw the moon and it all clicked. WE ARE HALF WAY DONE!

At that moment I had to check myself right then and there. What have I been spending my tie one? have I been doing enough for the sake of Allah? and for myself spiritually?

By the half way point, one should be well adjusted to their fasting lifestyle. Usually, around this time in the morning I am not really hungry. A couple of dates, fruits and water I am good for the day. Around this time as Muslims, this is when we dig in and do more!. We do more praying, we give more sadaqah, we do more good deeds, we make extra duas.  Around this time we realize our special friend is leaving, because at this time we have made this connection with Allah (God, Dios) because of our lifestyle change and in our hearts we are happier, we are at peace, we have more energy and we feel more fulfilled. It is such a wonderful feeling and knowing Ramadan is ending we become very sad and push ourselves to do more.

Have an awesome day and Thank You for allowing me to share my fasting day with you.

Ramadan day 13 & 14 another weekend has gone by

Surah Mulk 67:13-14

13.And conceal your word or manifest it; surely He is Cognizant of what is in the hearts.

14.Does He not know, Who created? And He is the Knower of the subtleties, the Aware.

Another weekend has gone by and I am falling behind on my post. Yikes! My intentions this year is to actually post ALL 30 days. Last year, I did not complete all my post and pretty much gave  up.. The posting not the fasting! lol. But you see this is the beauty of Ramadan. This is the challenge that we are given. The challenge is to challenge ourselves. To remove ourselves from our comfort zone to see if we can do something different that is beneficial to our life, to our spiritual selves. Actually, the way we live our lives during Ramadan is the way we should live our lives 24/7 365 days. The way we are during Ramadan is who we should be ALL the time.

It is a struggle is not to live a new life. The struggle is to leave your old life. When I sit and think about Ramadan and my morning routine. I am really just amazed.  During Ramadan, I eat breakfast EVERYDAY and a high protein breakfast at that. Before, Ramadan I barely ate breakfast. It’s was pretty much coffee and a croissant. I drank less water, I ate less fruit. During Ramadan I drink MORE water and I eat MORE fruit. And because of those actions I feel more energetic during the day and at night. I have a power nap during the day on my lunch break. This year I even signed up for a intensive arabic course. Which I thought would be rough, but in actuality I am so happy that I am taking the course and mentally I have not been exhausted. Actually, it has given me that extra boost of energy needed to get finish out the day because my mind is not on is it time to eat yet.

So this year I am determined to post everyday! I may be a bit slow but know my post is coming! 🙂

Have an awesome day and thank you for allowing me to share my fasting experience with you.

ALMA_ATL

As salam alaikum Y Bienvenidos

ALMA was founded in Feb 2002.  My curiosity was sparked by a reporter who called to interview me about Latino Muslims in Atlanta. She wanted their views about life after the 9/11 attack. At that time there were no other Latino Muslims that I knew of. From that conversation, my curiosity was sparked and ALMA was born.

Mission

Our mission is to educate the Latino non-Muslims about Islam. As well as, unite other Latino Muslims in Georgia and surrounding areas. ALMA is also committed to assisting new Latino Shahadahs with their transition to Islam.

Vision

Our vision is to increase the Latino Muslim community.

Goals

Future goals Include:

  • Bilingual Jumuah
  • New shahadah classes
  • Weekly dawah forum
  • Local Bilingual newsletter

Insha Allah we will be successful.
